You go to your bed, lie your head down on your pillow and cover yourself with your blanket. You feel so comfortable and happy that at last, it’s time to recharge.

Surprisingly, the pillows you use also have something to say! As a very essential sleeping material, pillows also function something to your body and your health as you sleep. It’s not only about the comfort and the deepness of sleep. It’s also about the health within and the health that is seen. Look into these pillow types which you might have at home or you are just planning to buy, and know the benefits they provide to human health. There are a lot of types, but let’s talk about these five.
1 – Memory Foam Pillow
Also used in shoes, memory foam is used for pillows. A memory foam pillow looks and feels neat since it’s composition is smooth even if you place it in a pillow case. It actually looks cool because it conforms to the shape of your head but then get backs to its shape after a little while. It adjusts to you so you’d have the control as you sleep. Some pillows are too controlling in a sense that your movements are minimal because other angles or parts of the pillow do not feel comfortable anymore. Health benefits include:
- Support – Memory foam pillow is recommended for those who experience body aches such as stiff necks, tight shoulder muscles and back pains. It offers spinal support so misalignment won’t happen Because memory foam pillow reshapes according to what puts pressure on it, it will be helpful so that those body aches will be lessened, the body parts relaxed and postures are corrected.
- Airways Alignment – The spinal cord is connected to the brain which directs the body, directs breathing as well. It’d be helpful if you’re having a difficult time to breathe at night.
- Hygienic– It is non-poisonous thus safe. It’s not that vulnerable to allergic reactions since it impedes bacteria, fungus and other ill-causing microorganisms.
2 – Buckwheat Pillow
Pillows with buckwheat inside it is! This pillow type has been used for a long time now, and not everyone is aware of that and its benefits.
- Environmentally Safe- Buckwheat looks like a grain, but it’s not a grain. It’s a fruit seed. Unlike other pillow fillings, buckwheat pillow contains a 100% natural material and harmless to the environment.
- Good Support- It is helpful if you have body aches due to tensed muscles, headache and back problems. Because buckwheat pillow does not hugely conform to what puts pressures on it, so the form of the head or any body part does not drown in the pillow.
- Sleep Problem Reduction – Because of the comfort and firmness of it, you’d be kept away from insomnia.
- Low Temperature Maintenance- Low temperature is maintained because inside the pillow is appropriate air flow due to the fact that although the pillow is filled with buckwheat shells, air can still pass through because of the natural shape of one shell.
3 – Latex Pillow
Latex rubber is what this is made of. A bit of the rubber’s smell is noticeable. Usually, sofas and chairs with cushion are made of this.
- Environment-friendly – Its rubber comes from rubber trees thus it’s not harmful for the environment. It’s organic and decayable.
- Harm-free – There is no presence of hazardous chemicals.

4 – Microbead Pillow
You’re probably familiar with this pillow type which feels like there are seeds inside of it. You’re a bit worried that the pillow’s body or case might break or tear making the fillings spill. Bean bags and some stuffed toys contain microbeads.
- Cool Feeling – Although many, microbeads are indeed micro. Even if they’re compact, air can still move inside since they can be move around.
- Hypoallergenic – Moisture and water can’t be sucked up thus hindering bacteria and dust particles and parasites.
- Instant Massage – The minute beads can be easily felt individually.

5 – Down Pillow
A down pillow is definitely soft and comfortable. Its inside contains “down”, the fluffy part at the bottom of a bird. Without a question, it is totally light–lighter than feather–and cushy, and you’d want to hug it until it flattens (but dear, it doesn’t flatten). It doesn’t get hard. This pillow type is costly.
- Sweat Reduction – It is able to breathe, and so it makes your skin breathe too, lessening perspiration.
- Malleability – It supports your neck and head because it maintains its shape very well.
- Insulation Property – Because downs are used to safeguard birds during hot and during cold times, to humans, this pillow type don’t get strange and dependent temperatures.
- Natural Allergy Resistant – Birds use down for self-protection; it may not be to the same extent as it is for animals, but humans are also protected from allergies. It prevents bacteria from being drawn to it thus to you.
